Rocky V is a American sports drama film. It is the fifth installment in the Rocky serieswritten by and starring Sylvester Stallone and co-starring Talia ShireStallone's real-life son Sageand real-life boxer Tommy Morrisonwith Morrison in the role of Tommy Gunn, a talented yet raw boxer.
After Stallone directed the second through fourth films in the series, Rocky V saw the return of John G. Reception to the film was generally negative.
Due to the low box office result, Rocky V was the last Rocky film with which United Artists had any involvement. A sixth film, Rocky Balboawas released in and garnered much more favorable reviews. Following his victory over Ivan Drago in Moscow, Rocky experiences physical complications from the fight. At a press conference, boxing promoter George Washington Duke attempts to goad Rocky into fighting his boxer, Union Cane, who is the top-rated challenger.
Rocky declines. Paulie was fooled into signing a " power of attorney " over to Rocky's accountant, who squandered all of his money on real estate deals gone sour and failed to pay Rocky's taxes over the previous six years. He cannot do commercials or endorsements to pay the debt due to the prosecution of the accountant and his past criminal records that involve assault and loan shark, but tells Rocky that it is fixable with a few more fights.
Rocky considers accepting the fight with Cane, but Adrian urges him to see a doctor, and he is diagnosed with cavum septum pellucidum. Reluctantly, Rocky retires from boxing. His home and belongings are sold to pay the debt and the Balboas move back to their old working-class neighborhood in Philadelphia. Rocky visits Mighty Mick's Gym willed to his son by his old trainer Mickey Goldmill which has fallen into disrepair. Seeing a vision of himself and Mickey from years past, Rocky draws inspiration to become a trainer himself and reopens the gym.
Rocky and Paulie meet a young fighter from Oklahoma named Tommy Gunn. Rocky agrees to become his manager. Training him gives Rocky a sense of purpose, and Tommy rises to become a top contender. Distracted with Tommy's training, Rocky neglects Robert, who is being bullied at school. After learning to defend himself, Robert falls in with the wrong crowd and becomes withdrawn from his family. Union Cane wins the vacant world heavyweight title.
Still wanting to do business with Rocky, Washington showers Tommy with luxuries and promises him that he is the only path to a shot at the title. Rocky insists dealing with Washington will end badly. Tommy drives off in a huff. Adrian attempts to comfort Rocky. Rocky apologizes to Robert and they mend their relationship. Tommy defeats Cane for the heavyweight title with a first round knockout but is jeered by spectators for leaving Rocky and hounded by reporters after the fight.Prime Video has your Halloween movie picks covered.

Returning home after the Drago bout, Balboa discovers that the fortune that he had acquired as heavyweight champ has been stolen and lost on the stockmarket by his accountant. His boxing days over, Rocky begins to coach an up-and-coming fighter named Tommy Gunn. Rocky cannot compete, however, with the high salaraies and glittering prizes being offered to Gunn by other managers in town.
Often slated as the worst of the bunch, "Rocky V" is actually superior to the two films that preceded it. Unlike the glossy third and fourth entries, this one tries to be down-to-earth. Rocky loses his money, and is forced to go back to his old neighborhood. Back in the grime of his past. That's where he belongs, not in a mansion!
Granted, there is some cheese on display here. The music is dated and some of the dialogue is just too obvious - the reporters at the press conference pressure Rocky in all kinds of ridiculous ways. I also don't understand the patriotic references; why is the villain "George Washington" Duke and why does he say "only in America" at the end?
It's also silly that the film is set right after "Rocky IV," since all of the actors have visibly aged. Nevertheless, there's good stuff here. Paulie finally redeems himself, and Tommy's corruption is an interesting counterpoint to how Rocky's career developed.
The final battle is very satisfying, particularly the visions of Mickey which inspire Rocky to get up for "one more round!!! I also love the last line - a great summary of what Rocky's character is all about. Looking for something to watch? Choose an adventure below and discover your next favorite movie or TV show. Full Cast and Crew.In the pantheon of inspirational sports movies, it's no secret that the Rocky franchise stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. The story of an intrepid southpaw from Philadelphia, the series follows Rocky Balboa across eight installments, and over the years, it's become one of the most beloved franchises in film history. After all, Rocky is the perpetual underdog who overcomes any obstacle in his path, whether he's jogging up a lot of stairs, battling cancer, or knocking out some pretty heinous opponents.
In every film, he proves his grit, determination, and rock-solid jaw. To help keep track of Balboa's sprawling and epic journey, here's a rundown of his entire story. When we're introduced to Rocky Balboa inhe's a far cry from the legendary champ fans know and love today even if his wardrobe hasn't changed one bit.
He's a fighter, sure. However, he makes ends meet as a collector for a local loan shark. But when the U. Bicentennial comes about, Rocky is thrust into the spotlight, meeting the characters that will shape his life for years to come. He's pulled out of obscurity by heavyweight champion Apollo Creedwho may loom as large over the franchise as Balboa himself.
What he wasn't counting on was Rocky having more heart than anyone else in the game. Rocky begins an unorthodox training regimen that sees him running up the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, punching the heck out of meat, and guzzling raw eggs. Along the way, he falls in love with Adrian Pennino, while also dealing with her hot-headed brother, Paulie. But despite Paulie's alcoholism and bad attitude, he's Rocky's BFF, and when it comes time for the fight against Apollo, Paulie is sitting ringside, cheering Rocky on.
Rocky also befriends Mickey Goldmill, a tough-as-nails boxing trainer who whips the Italian Stallion into shape with some tough love and even tougher training. Although Rocky ultimately loses the fight, he gets the girl and the respect of the boxing community, which propels him to bigger and better things.
Creed and Balboa are rushed to the hospital where the champion is surprised to hear that people believe he carried Rocky. Balboa is forced to ignore the champ's cries for a rematch when he learns that fighting again could mean permanent blindness. Thanks to his rise to fame, Rocky finally gets a little money to his name.
This allows him to propose to Adrian, who reveals she's pregnant shortly after their wedding. Just like that, Rocky is a dad, and Paulie is a weird uncle.
However, in the second film, we see just how massive Creed's ego really is. Despite offers for more professional fights, he becomes obsessed over hate mail about his match with Rocky.
He goads the Stallion into a rematch, which Rocky reluctantly accepts after learning that weddings are expensive and doing commercials isn't half as fulfilling as winning matches.
Mickey, who took a back seat after Rocky retired, understands the health concerns the fighter faces and initially declines to help him train. It's not until Creed's taunts go a bridge too far that he decides to help.
And after the birth of his child, Robert, Rocky goes after Creed with renewed vigor. Just like that, Rocky Balboa is the new heavyweight champion of the world. Five years after taking the heavyweight championship from Apollo, Rocky's life is pretty different. Tommy Morrison was one of the hardest hitters of his generation and was potentially one punch away from the most lucrative fight of his life — against Mike Tyson — when his world flipped upside down. He moved from Arkansas to Kansas City to pursue a career in boxing and ended up getting as far as the National Olympic Trials, where he was defeated by eventual Gold medal winner Ray Mercer.
With his bleach blond hair, enviable physique and brutal knockout power, the slugger looked every inch a superstar and he got the opportunity to pursue that dream in But his star power had not diminished and, with legendary promoter Bob Arum guiding him, Morrison got another shot at the heavyweight crown against year-old George Foreman in Refusing to get into a brawl with the far bigger and more cumbersome opponent, Morrison boxed safely from a distance to become the WBO heavyweight champion. With the world at his feet, it seemed as though Morrison had the potential to go on and achieve all the fame and fortune boxing had to offer.
But, unlike a Rocky movie, the champion was about to find out how cruel the sport can be. His second defence against Michael Bentt — four months after beating Foreman — in his adopted hometown of Tulsa in Oklahoma was a genuine shock — a true upset in the heavyweight division so accustomed to drama.
Just days before the fight, talks about a unification fight with WBC champion Lennox Lewis had reportedly begun. Yet the unknown Bentt had not read the script and dropped Morrison three times en route to a first round stoppage win. Incidentally, Mercer also backs up this claim from their two meetings, insisting Morrison hit harder than Lewis. It was announced that Morrison had tested positive for HIV.George Foreman vs Tommy Morrison - Part 3
He disputed that he had the virus but it brought an end to his boxing career, aged just Morrison has always maintained the result of the test was incorrect and the Nevada Athletic Commission lifted his ban from boxing in He briefly made a return to the ring a year later, winning two low-key fights, before calling time on his career for good.

He opted not to wear headgear and got popped with a few jabs at first, bloodying his nose, but Gunn quickly shook it off and unloaded on his opponent with deadly hooks, causing Balboa to scream at Gunn to take it down a notch, but Gunn continued to throw huge shots until his opponent almost got knocked down.
Gunn quickly apologised to his opponent, but then asked Balboa what he thought, and Balboa told him that he doesn't listen to well and that he is more of a street fighter, reminding Gunn that this is boxing, not street fighting. Gunn continues to pester Balboa and asks him to manage him; Balboa agrees that Gunn has a lot of potential and skill, but tells Gunn that he isn't a manager, wishing Gunn good luck.
Despite a poor first impression in Mighty Mick's Gym, Gunn decides to come back later that night and wait outside the gym for Balboa.
