Fulcrum road wheels are very popular, both as original equipment on complete new bikes and when bought after market. Fulcrum road bike wheels fall into two general groups: shallow-rimmed general-purpose wheels mostly dubbed 'Racing' and deep-rim aero wheels under the Speed and Wind banners. Fulcrum wheels are very common as original equipment on bikes and you may come across wheels not listed here that have been custom-specced for one bike brand.
Want gravel bike wheels? Check out the sturdier end of the Racing series and the Rapid Red wheels. Welcome to the latest edition of road. We'll take you through the Fulcrum range from the functional, inexpensive Racing 7s right up to the super go-faster Speed 55 wheels.
Fulcrum is a sub-brand of Italian component manufacturer Campagnolo. This isn't a test, although we do reference our reviews where relevant. This is simply an overview of the range to tell you what's what and help you decide what's most suitable for you.Llantas Fulcrum Racing 4 DB
Fulcrum has dirt riding in mind with the disc-brake Racing 7. It boasts rims with a 19mm internal width to work with tyres up to 62mm wide, and hubs that can be easily adapted to work with the various quick-release and through-axle standards.
Because the rims are shallower than the original, discontinued Racing 7s the claimed weight ends up slightly lower at 1,g. They're great tyres, but Fulcrum really needs to tweak the design for greater flexibility. Buy if: You want tough, fairly light wheels for your gravel bike — and you really like Schwalbe tyres. The Racing 6 is very similar to the Racing 7 but has an over-sized, drilled-out, drive-side flange on the rear wheel.
Fulcrum's website in fact no longer lists the rim-brake Racing 7 at all, so the Racing 6 looks to effectively replace that model in the range. Like the Racing 7, the rims are 23mm wide 17mm internal and slightly deeper on the rear wheel: The disc-brake version of the Racing 6 has a claimed weight of 1,g a pair, shaving 50g off the Racing 7 DB thanks to 26mm tall rims with 17mm internal width. These are therefore more road-orientated than the Racing 7 DB.
Buy if: You want very sensibly priced disc-brake wheels for the road, and don't mind the Schwalbe-only rule. Check out our Fulcrum Racing 5 review. As with other disc-braked, tubeless-compatible Fulcrum road wheels, those tyres will have to be Schwalbe if you're going tubeless. Buy if: You want solid commuting or training wheels that roll well and don't cost the earth. Racing 4 is the new name for the wheel formerly known as the Racing Quattro, with 35mm-deep rims and a claimed weight per pair of 1,g.
The 21 rear spokes are arranged according to what Fulcrum calls its Two-to-One system, with 14 on the driveside and 7 on the non-driveside.Looking to insure your new bike?

Bottle cage bosses are present on the both down and seat tube, with the former perhaps a little low in the frame, necessitating exaggerated movement to free up the bidon… but if anything this keeps you streamlined.
In addition, since it launched the original Dogma F8 in Pinarello has paid particular attention to the placement of its bottle cages, recognising that since bottles will be carried more often than not, the tube shapes in that area of the frame need to be designed around them for best aerodynamics.
Fulcrum Racing 5s are budget wheels compared to the high-end frame and fork. Powered by a Shimano Ultegra mechanical groupsetit could be suggested that Pinarello has scrimped with what might be considered as mid-range componentry, despite this, Ultegra remains a stalwart performer offering seamless transitions at the back and barely perceptible chainring changes. Teardrop shaped spacers integrate with the MOst stem. I took it to ride the Vosges climb of La Planche des Belles Filles for a feature in the June 20 issue of the magazine.

Fulcrum Identification Card which uniquely identifies the wheel and certifies that it has been manually assembled and has passed all tests required by the strict quality protocol. Club Last Updated on August 24, The Shimano WH-R provides an economical alternative for riders in search for a primary training wheelset.
Comparing it to other models of the same caliber, the WH-R is in a price range that performs quite well, being one-of-a-kind, rock solid, and a reliable wheelset introduced by Shimano. The Shimano WH-R is an entry-level wheelset and an economical alternative if you are seeking for wheels for your basic training or daily commuting.
Weighing at grams, the WH-R are probably too heavy for racing, but it can be your everyday training wheel. Shimano focused on providing affordable and sturdy wheelset that can serve starters and beginners as an entry-level bike. You can exhaust these sturdy wheels on the road while saving your lightweight wheels when they are truly needed. The R is perfect for your daily commuting during the day and a versatile training wheel on the weekends.
The round spokes and the aluminum and steel construction of the WH-R are nothing but the basics, but the actual performance over the years tell us that the WH-R can stand up the test of time. Rims and freehub body. The R features durable aluminum rims, oversized steel axles and a freehub body with a freehub shell made of aluminum. In terms of compatibility, the freehub can fit with various cassettes such as 8- 9- and speed cassettes.
Review of Shimano WH-R500 Wheelset
Because of this beefy, steel structure, the R is much heavier than any of its counterparts. But, you may never see a basic training wheelset like the R made reliable with the basic good components.
No wonder, many riders would applaud the versatility of the rims serving during commuting and training. The R is made of 20 round stainless steel spokes in a radial pattern in the front and a crossed pattern spokes in the rear. Though the spokes are nothing but the basics, these wheels can run thousands of miles without significant wearing.
The R has a smart rim wear indicator, which allows safe detection of a worn rim. Also, the rim takes a lot of aggressiveness and abuse from running bumps in the road. The Shimano R has a semi-aero anodized 24mm rim profile, which is modestly elegant, offering aerodynamics without catching crosswinds. This defines the good rolling capacity of the bike since air resistance is the biggest hindrance when riding your bike and this drag force is the most important source of resistance to keep in mind.
Weighing at g pairthe R is not a good option for racing since its focus is to provide an affordable, sturdy wheelset that will suit beginners as an entry-level bike for everyday use. There are quite plenty on the internet that I found discussing how reliable the R is, but I also suggest that always scrutinize those that you read and filter the ones applicable for your current or long-term goals and needs.

Great service as well from Merlin. Many thanks! They look great and are great upgrade from the stock wheels. This is basicly the Fulcrum racing 4db so if you look at the fulcrum site you will see that these are simply the stock version sold on certain bikes. They are 2-way fit ready for tubeless. Main difference is the free hub is louder then on the racing 4 bd. Otherwise these are awesome. No real aero advantage but they are fairly light and stiff and responsive.Riding the wheels with Vittoria Corsa Speed tyres highlighted the narrow tyre profile.
The wheels remained true across my rides despite the low spoke count of 16 on the front and 20 on the rear. This also helps keep the weight down although it felt like it affected the wheels acceleration.
I put the wheels in my Bianchi Specialissimaadmittedly not a usual winter bike but one that shows up inefficiencies or a lack of stiffness in wheels due to its performance frame. Being used to the lightening handling of the Bianchi the change came as a bit of surprise and had me running one corner in Richmond Park wide.
A solid wheel for most of your riding needs, but the price and relatively slow handling against its rivals around this price point marks the Shimano RS down a few points overall. Although they're a bit arduous to accelerate, the Shimano RS wheels maintain their rolling speed well and have the added bonus of being tubeless ready. Home Reviews Bike Components Wheels.
Pros Rolling speed Tubeless ready. Cons Slow handling Slow acceleration. Verdict Although they're a bit arduous to accelerate, the Shimano RS wheels maintain their rolling speed well and have the added bonus of being tubeless ready.
